Dr. Sofia Llahana is the Lead Editor of the 'Advanced Practice in Endocrinology Nursing' and was recently awarded one of the most prestigious awards by the European Society of Endocrinology, the 2021 Special Recognition Award for her substantial contribution to the advancement of Endocrine Nursing.

Dr. Sofia Llahana was awarded the ADSHG Alfred Potter Award research grant award to support a national study she is leading on looking at factors that influence self-management with the aim to develop a Position Statement on patient education and support services for patients with adrenal insufficiency.

Sofia advocates on the importance of holistic self-management for adrenal insufficiency, and the support required for patients and those close to them, to understand their condition, optimise daily treatment and prevent and manage a life-threatening adrenal crisis.

Following the early release of the new NHS Steroid Emergency Card back in March to keep patients with Addison's or adrenal insufficiency safe during the COVID-19 crisis, the NHS steroid card has been updated and physical copies will be available to order from Tuesday 18th August 2020 for hospital teams!
