To help raise awareness around hydrocortisone emergency injection kits, we ask you to #ShareYourKit. At the ADSHG we like to feature members of our amazing community, as they show us how they store and carry their kit, to help encourage us to keep our kits with us at all times and normalise this potentially scary situation.

Here Fiona, a Quality Improvement Impact Officer and part-time Master's student shows us how she stores her kit.

Meet Fiona

Hi everyone! I’m Fiona, 29, from Glasgow. I was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency in December 2021 after a long battle with some horrible and debilitating symptoms. I currently work as the Quality Improvement Impact Officer at The Cystic Fibrosis Trust and am studying part-time for my Master of Public Health postgraduate degree. I am really keen to help raise awareness of adrenal insufficiency, particularly after some negative healthcare experiences that I’ve had since being diagnosed.

My Kit #ShareYourKit

As someone with adrenal insufficiency, I keep my emergency injection kit & anaphylaxis kit together in a red pouch that I had made on Etsy - I also have the ADSHG kit and sometimes use that box instead. Along with my medications, I try to keep lucozade tablets, dissolvable electrolytes & a salty snack in my bag too, alongside my kit - these have helped me get out of some sticky situations with my adrenal insufficiency! I have also printed out instructions for administrating the emergency injection & the protocol for treating an adrenal crisis - always best to be prepared for the worst!

How do you remember to take your tablets?

I have alarms set on my phone and leave steroids beside a glass of water on my bedside table so they are the first thing I see in the morning.

What type of medical alert identification do you have? e.g. bracelet, necklace, phone alert.

I have the ADSHG black wristband and have MedicalID set up on my iPhone.
